City attends to high volume storm related electricity faults

09 July 2024

The City’s Electricity teams are on the ground and are attending to a high number of service requests around the metro. High call volumes and storm damage may lead to longer outages and teams are only able to attend to repairs if it is safe to do so.

'The City's Electricity teams are attending to a number of faults around the city and we apologise for any inconvenience caused. The strong winds and heavy rain showers may continue to lead to damaged electricity infrastructure today, which may result in a large number of electricity service requests. The City reminds residents that our teams will attend to service requests in the fastest time possible, if safe to proceed. A new WhatsApp number is available to log electricity service requests and storm damage. We ask residents to report their electricity faults to the City via our service channels to only use one reporting channel when reporting so that duplicate service requests are avoided as far as possible,' said the Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.

The impacted areas include:

  • Manenberg
  • Wynberg
  • Claremont
  • Kenilworth
  • Rosebank
  • Bishopscourt
  • Heideveld
  • Grassy Park
  • Plumstead
  • Lakeside
  • Hout Bay
  • Brooklyn
  • Meadowridge
  • Bergvliet

Please note: The City's area outages list is being updated as information is received from the Electricity teams. If an area is not included, it does not mean teams are not aware of the matter.
